It is a traditional Bengali recipe prepared with yogurt and mustard seeds. It is not at all spicy dish but a bit creamy preparation.

4 pieces of Ilish or Hilsa Fish Steak
1 tbsp Yellow and 1 tbsp Black Mustard Seeds paste
1 tbsp Posto or Poppy Seeds paste
Paste of 3 Green Chillies
1 cup Beaten Yogurt
4 Green Chillies slit
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
3-4 crushed Cardamom
Salt and Sugar to taste
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl : Beaten Yogurt, Mustard seed paste, Poppy seed paste, Green Chillies paste, little bit of Turmeric Powder to make yellow golden colour, crushed Cardamom and then mix well. Add half a glass of water into the mixture. Then add salt, sugar and slit green chillies and mix it well.
Add all the fish into the mixture. Keep it in the fridge for about half an hour before cooking.
Now in a skillet add the whole mixture. Add little bit of warm water and mustard oil.
Cover the lid and turn on the heat. Cook it for about 15-20 mins on low heat.
When fish is cooked sprinkle little bit of mustard oil.
Doi Ilish or Dahi Hilsa is now ready. Enjoy it with hot steamed rice. It took me about half an hour to prepare this recipe and serves 4 people.
