Cholar Dal or Bengal Gram Lentil is a little bit sweeter kind of dish which goes well with Luchi or kachuri in breakfast time. It is not a everyday dal but it’s typically made in special occasions and festivals.
Serving Size: 3-4 people.

Ingredients:
2 cups Chana dal
1 tsp whole Cumin seeds
1 Bayleaf
1 Dried Red chilly
Whole Garam masala
Few Coconut finely chopped
4-5 slit Green chillies
1” long Ginger grated
Half a tsp Hing
1 tsp Ghee
Few Raisins
1 tsp Turmeric powder
Mustard oil
Salt & Sugar to taste
Cooking Procedure:
First boil the chana dal with little bit of salt. After boiling don’t drain away the water.
Heat mustard oil and then temper with whole garam masala, bayleaf, dried red chilly, whole cumin seeds and then add hing. Stir it and then add the chopped coconut.
Fry the coconut until it is light brown. It’s been 2 mins add the ginger paste.
Now add the boiled chana dal and then add raisin, slit green chillies, turmeric powder,salt, sugar and then cook it for about 5-7 mins on medium heat.
So it’s done and lastly add the ghee and cover the lid.
Serving Suggestion:
Cholar dal best goes with luchi or deep fried puffed bread. You can also enjoy it with roti or paratha as well. It took me about an hr to prepare this dal and serves 3-4 peole.
