Shor Puti Macher Jhol / Puti Fish Jhol

This is not the typical small Puti Fish that we all know, this is known as Shor Puti which is 4″ to 6″ in size. I learnt this recipe from my mother. She never measured quantities. Here, however, I have  listed quantities for my readers.

Serving Size: 2

Cooking Time: 30 mins

Ingredients:

  1. 250 gm Puti Fish ( Spot-fin swamp barb )
  2. 100 gm Mustard Seeds
  3. 5-6 Green Chill
  4. 1 tsp Black Jeera
  5. Salt to taste
  6. 1 tsp Turmeric Powder

Cooking Procedure:

Take good pieces of fish. Wash it and pat it dry . Then marinate with turmeric powder and salt.

Shallow fry the fish and keep it aside.

Make a paste of mustard seeds.

Heat oil in pan then add black jeera and green chilly to crackle in oil.

Pour the above mustard paste. Add salt and turmeric powder. Stir well with water. Lastly add the fish. Cover the lid for 5-10 mins.

Serving Suggestion:

Serve it hot with rice.
