Pui Saager Chorchori, Basella Curry  


Pui Shaag is a typical Bengali dish. It can be cooked with shrimp also.It is also known as Malabar spinach. This is a simple preparation  that goes well with rice .

Cooking Time: 30 mins


  1. 500 gm Basella (Pui)
  2. 250 gm Pumpkin
  3. 1 Potato
  4. 250 gm Parwal
  5. 2  Green Chilly
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Sugar to taste
  8. 1 tsp Kalo Jeera
  9. 1tsp Red Chilly
  10. 1tsp Turmeric Powder

Cooking procedure:


Cut and clean the shag first, cut the leaves and then chop them , also cut the data ( twigs )approx 1inch long pieces and slit them in between . Clean them in  water .


Cut the parwal, pumpkin and potato


Heat oil in kadai add jeera to crackle in oil


Add all the vegetables and fry it until it browns . Then add the basella leaf . Cover the lid for 5-6 mins and cook over low flame. . The shaag and the vegetables releases water. So no need to add water. Add turmeric powder, salt , sugar. Stir it.


Serving Suggestions:

Now preparation is ready to serve with hot rice .
