Bitter Gourd Curry, Sukto  


It is a traditional Bengali recipe. The vegetables we generally use in sukto is always available in the grocery store. I remember in my childhood that whenever I had stomach problem my mom always made it .

  1. 2 Potato
  2. 1 Bitter Gourd
  3. 6 nos.Parwal
  4. 2 stick Drumstick
  5. 1/2 Green Banana
  6. 1 Egg Plant
  7. 2 Carrot
  8. 4-5 Bori
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Sugar to taste
  11. 1 tsp Mustard Powder
  12. 1 tsp Ginger Paste
  13. 1 tsp Mustard Seed
  14. 1 Bay Leaf

Cooking procedure:

First cut all vegetables except karela into medium pieces .Cut karela in ring .


Make a paste of mustard powder


Heat oil in kadai and fry the bari . Keep aside.


 Put Bay leaf and Mustard seeds to crackle in oil . Then add all the vegetables and fry. ( If you want you can separately fry all the vegetables and add the spices. )


 Add the ginger paste and mustard paste. Stir fry for 3 minutes.Add the ‘badi (bori) pieces, turmeric powder , salt , sugar and water. Mix well. Add water as required. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 10 minutes in low heat.


Serving Suggestions:

Your sukto is ready· Serve hot with steamed rice.
