Bhetki Fish Jhal  


Bhetki Fish is also known as Barramundi Fish in English. Bhetki fish is very popular for Fish Cutlet, Pakoras and Fish Chops. Today I’m going to prepare a typical Bengali culinary style called Jhal using Bhekti Fish.

Cooking Time: 30 mins


  1. 500 gm Bhetki Fish
  2. Salt to taste
  3. A pinch of Sugar
  4. 1 Tomato
  5. 1Green Chilly
  6. 1 Onion
  7. 1 Dried Red Chilly
  8. 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  9. 1 tsp Methi Seeds
  10. 1 Bay leaf
  11. 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  12. 1 tbsp Cumin Powder
  13. 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
  14. 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste

Cooking Procedure:

Marinate fish with salt and turmeric powder. Then fry the fish and keep it aside.


Take 1 tsp of cumin seeds, 1 tsp of methi seeds, one dried red chilly and 1 bay leaf.


Make a paste of onion with ginger garlic, tomato and mustard seeds separately.


Heat oil in pan then add cumin seeds, methi seeds, dried red chilly and bay leaf to crackle in oil.


Add all the above paste . Fry it until it turns golden brown. Then add all the spices . Add water as required. Lastly put the fish . Cover the lid for 5-10 mins.


Serving Suggestion:

Enjoy with white rice.
