LACHA PARATHA – Kerala Malabar Parotta  

 Lacha Paratha is a kind of  flaky multi- layered bread cooked on the tawa. It goes well with any kind of gravy dish.

Serving Size: 2-3 people

Cooking Time: 30 mins


  • 3 Cups All purpose Flour / Maida
  • 1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour / Atta
  • Salt
  • White Oil

Cooking Procedure:

  1. First in a bowl add atta, maida, little bit of salt and 1 tbsp of white oil. Mix everything well and then gradually add water as required. Make a dough.
  2. Then cover it with a damp paper towel and keep it aside for about half an hour.
  3. There are three ways of making the lacha paratha.

First way:

  1. Take a ball from the dough and then sprinkle little bit of atta on the counter. Then roll it as thin as possible. Then stretch it from all the sides. Now brush white oil and then sprinkle atta. Fold alternately, stretch it and then roll to a ball.  Then roll it to paratha.

Second way:

  1. In the similar way roll the dough with white oil and sprinkle flour but this instead of alternate fold just fold it in the same direction. Then stretch it and roll it into a ball. Then roll it to paratha.

Third way:

  1. Take two balls  of dough and make it into one big ball. Then roll it and now brush white oil and sprinkle little bit of flour. Now with pizza cutter or knife cut the rolling dough into 1”long strips. Then roll each strips. For each paratha take four strips and roll it one over another and then roll it.

Now preheat the tawa and then cook the paratha for few secs and then flip it. Then add white oil on top of the paratha. Again add white oil and spread it around. Flip it and remove it when done.

Serving Suggestion:

Enjoy lacha paratha with any kind of curry dish. It took me about 30 mins to prepare this paratha and serves 2-3 people
